Tuesday’s Word
Peaceful Times
Proverbs 16:7

7 When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. (KJV)
7 When God approves of your life, even your enemies will end up shaking your hand. (The Message)

1. a formal agreement between two or more states in reference to peace, alliance, commerce, or other international relations.
2. the formal document embodying such an international agreement.
3. any agreement or contract.

There have been hundreds of treaties since the Egyptian–Hittite peace treaty in 1283 BC (yes, I know a little history). Some have lasted throughout time, some have been lies before the ink was dry, and some (like the one I named) have been forgotten by most. When you make a treaty, both sides must come to an agreement about the ordeal. For example, my brother and I shared a room growing up and our treaty was not to touch each other’s things. It was something that brought peace to the atmosphere and calmness in the house. There were a few times the treaty was broken, but the consequences were handled and the treaty was back in effect.

There are conditions to follow within a treaty, as well. The writer here states that when a man’s ways are acceptable to God; that is a condition. How can a man please God…good question. The Bible says without faith it is impossible to please Him (Hebrews 11:6). Faith is part of an agreement that is bound by trust. Proverbs 3 says to trust in God with all your heart and lean not to what you know (that’s the faith part) but acknowledge Him and He will direct your path (the trust part). When we have faith and trust working with us and within us, it is highly unlikely that anything can come against us. Romans 8:31 says “if God be for us, who can be against us?” What better person to have on your side when dealing with a peace treaty.

The writer goes on to say that when God is pleased with us, our enemies will keep silent. I know some of you are having a hard time grasping the fact that this can happen. But many of you are in untouchable status and didn’t know it. You have been on your job for a while and they have tried everything they knew how to get you out, but had to come back asking for your help. Some of you have been dealing with a “friend” for some time now and after all the harm and pain they have caused, had to come back to you and straighten it out because “something was tugging at them”. He will make your enemies peaceful. David said He “prepareth a table before me IN the presence of mine enemies”. Don’t worry about what they do to you, it will only make it better for you. The thing about this treaty is the enemy will have to agree to whatever the terms God has set in it. There are no negotiations or compromises with this one. It’s His way or…His way. His treaty is still available for others to join. The enemies will behave when your ways please Him; you will have peace in restless times.
