Monday’s Word-Living With A But

Monday’s Word
Living With A But
2 Kings 5:1

1 Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the Lord had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a leper.

There are many people that have done amazing things. With sources like the internet to search various items in a flash, anyone can find amazing stories of heroism, incredible feats, and acts of kindness in an instant. But the thing that may separate them from other people is they didn’t let there “but” stop them from getting in the way. Yeah, I know you are looking crazy, thinking this boy has lost his mind…what is he talking about? I am talking about that thing you feel you can’t do that is stopping you from greatness. It could be an idea that you have but no funding, your gift you have but your education has thrown a roadblock or even a condition you have that you feel will stop you from achieving your goal. Most of us have let the “but” stop us from going farther. But I want you to understand that you can live with your “but”.

Notice here that Naaman was a leader, a boss, a head man, chief…you get the picture. Also notice that he was respected by the king, highly esteemed and a valiant man; but he also had a “but”. He did everything by the hand of God, he defeated many armies and commanded men with power. His men respected him, gave him little to no trouble because they believed in him. His leader saw nothing wrong with what he was doing and was happy that he was on his side rather than another. In every great thing Naaman had done, it was for the better of the kingdom…BUT. With all of his physical capabilities, here was a “but”. With his leadership, there was a “but”. With all of his respect, his valor, his understanding and skill of fighting, there was a “but”. However, the “but” never stopped him.

There is greatness in all of us, but there is a “but”. Naaman’s “but” was an incurable disease that was cured later in the chapter (2 Kings 5:14). Your “but” may not be as this man’s however, you have something that you must conquer in your life. Someone has overcome an addiction, an abusive situation, or a detrimental problem as their “but”. Some of you may have a small “but” to overtake, but you haven’t done it due to the power you have given to it. Then there is the person that will live with their “but” for a lifetime; will you let it stop you? I recently saw a photo of a young lady that had no hands and no legs, but was in front of a house (church) full giving God praise. There is no excuses to let your “but” stop you; can you live with it?
