Monday’s Word-Rags

Monday’s Word
Rags
Isaiah 64:6 NIV

All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

I have always wondered why we would be considered or compared to a rag. Something that most of us, if you have been privileged to dust or clean, should know about. Something that is less than a cloth but a little more than a swatch. Something that has seen some better days but still had a little fight in it. Something that when it was brand new, was the talk of the clean world, but when it started getting filthy, was being tossed aside and looked down upon…a filthy rag.

It didn’t take long to understand that a rag is something that can be use for many things, a rag can be called many things, a rag can take a lickin and keep on tickin, but a rag will fall apart. A rag can hold a lot of things in and can let a lot of things out. A rag can take the attitude and characteristics of the crowd it is hanging with, a rag can cut itself and have scars, and if not careful, can be lost in a room full of junk.

No matter what you have done, what you have seen or how good you have been you are still filthy. Soiled by your thoughts, actions and deeds we have taken the goodness of this world and through our lusts, have made it bitter. Understand that just like a rag, we have picked up everything, good and bad, this world has to offer and still think we are “good”? Now is the time to turn away from our sinful ways, to seek God in His splendor and majesty, to bow down before Him…because we are just filthy. But the price was paid, to take the filth away and make us whole again.
